cumin and carrot turkey burgers

i don’t eat red meat, but every once in a while i yearn for a delicious juicy burger with all the fixin’s. luckily i came across this recipe a few years ago, added a few of my own special twists, and came up with an end result that is delicious and satisfying every time.
the cumin adds a little pop that one doesn’t usually expect with a traditional burger, and the carrots and bread crumbs make the patties unbelievably moist and hold the flavors of the spices and garlic very well.

ingredients
lean ground turkey
3 large carrots, peeled and shredded
1-1/2 slices of wheat bread OR 1 cup of bread crumbs
2-3 cloves garlic
several dashes of cumin
dash red pepper
salt and pepper to taste

method
in a food processor (if you have one), use the grater blade to shred the carrots. remove and put in large bowl. next, use the traditional blade to make the bread crumbs in the food processor. add the crumbs to the carrots. mince the garlice and set aside. wash your hands, add the turkey to the carrots and bread crumbs, and combine with your hands. add the spices and garlic and continue to incorporate into the meat.  (no food processor?  grate the carrots the old fashioned way, and use store bought bread crumbs...although fresh ones just taste a whole lot nicer.)

shape into patties. cover and let refrigerate for an hour (if you have time; this extra step is nice to allow the flavors to marry one another).
grill either outside on a charcoal grill, or inside on a grill pan.

add your favorite toppings (i like sprouts, red onion, and arugula on mine), toast your bun, and dig in. you’re welcome.
